Free poker sites are on the way
Free poker sites are on the way Choose your language Tuesday, Oct 11, 2011 Home > Poker Strategy > Articles > Free poker sites are on the way by Sunday ,2 Oct 2011 Hoping for changes to the law casinos in Vegas and California are starting free poker sites Casinos have made it clear that they are betting on a change in the laws on online gaming. Most online gaming companies are sure that it is only a matter of time before casino gaming is legalised and are making preparations to cash in the instant Americans are once again allowed to play the game they love. Two separate casino companies have already created their own free play poker sites. Such sites allow people to play poker for points every time they win, those points are then traded in for various prizes such as electronic goods and even cars. These sites cash in on sweepstake laws that mean players can still get in on the action provided by poker without having to break the law. It also means that when the gaming laws change they will already have some market share for when they change their setup to allow real money games.Owner of the South Point Hotel and Casino, Michael Gaughan has announced that his free poker site will have the same name as the casino and will be using the ZEN network as their framework for operating the site. The site is expected to be up and running sometime in October. In addition to prizes there are even cash gifts on offer with the site to be funded exclusively by advertising and sponsorship deals. Zen also runs the poker rooms cardplayerpoker.com and spadesclub.com and Card Player magazine. According to Guaghan the website is only the first step and he intends to apply for an intrastate license at some point in the future. The other casino to open a new site is the Barona Resort in San Diego which is launching a Beta site for a free poker room online. The only players who are eligible to use the site are Club Barona members and the site will work in much the same way as that described above. The manager of the Barona hotel and resort, Rick Salinas, has said that “We are always looking for new and inventive way to excite our players and launching this free to play site is just another way to provide more fun for our players while at home.” The platform is being provided by the GTECH G2 internet company and offers a whole range of variations of poker. CelebPoker Package Winner Achieves Ambition
CelebPoker Package Winner… UK CelebPoker player Matthew Tranter took the next step in his poker career by winning a package to the Irish Winter Festival that took place from October 29th – 31st, 2011. As a loyal player of CelebPoker, Matt will be aiming for more package wins in our online satellites for land based poker tournaments. We caught up with him to find out a bit more. What do you do (occupation, studies, hobbies etc?)I have been making a living by playing poker for the last couple of years. Prior to this I studied software development. I greatly enjoy skiing, socializing, reading and a wide variety of music; primarily drum & bass and dubstep which I find very helpful as a driving force during long poker sessions. How long have you been playing poker and how did you start?I have been playing poker for 5 years. Poker first caught my attention when some of the better players started to move over from the real time strategy game “Starcraft” that I was playing competitively at the time, they all showed great results and this opened my mind to the advantage of investing my time and dedication into a more profitable venture. Televised poker also added to the appeal to get involved in this exciting game; seeing the pros at the time playing high stakes tournaments for millions of dollars helped fuel my desire to learn and hopefully one day compete with and defeat these great players. Did you use any special strategy to win the tournament?I vary my play style based on the players on my tables at the time. On some tables it is advantageous to play tight (only the best hands) and some loose (many hands), however either way I will try to play those hands aggressively making my opponents make tough decisions whilst giving me information about the strength of their hands. In this tournament I was able to play a loose aggressive style (this means i was playing a lot of hands whilst betting/raising/re-raising rather than calling) and had a very large stack going into the final table.A tight player will make it into the money positions in a tournament more than a loose player, however a loose player will go on the win much bigger prizes more often when they do make the money. Any key moments you remember from tournament? The final table is the most important part of the tournament, with the pay increasing steeply with each extra position gained; here outplaying the other players really matters.I was lucky to have a 2 – 1 chip lead on 2nd place going in to the FT and couldn’t really ask for a better start. The other players were all playing tight against me; trying to avoid me at all costs unless they had a monster hand. This is always a good thing as with nobody trying to contest pots with me I was effectively being given permission to constantly steal chips from the other players allowing me to extend my chip lead significantly… a lot of the pots i won on the FT could have gone to the other player had they tried to play back at me. What do you plan to do with the prize money?I plan to use a lot of the prize money to work my way into a number of large live events. I will be playing the Irish Winter Festival tournament in October and hope that this will be the first of many over the next couple of years. It has been an ambition of mine to expand in to the live poker scene for quite some time now and huge prizes are ready for the taking.I will also re-invest a lot of the money on the Celeb Poker cash/tournament tables in order to continue progressing up through the stakes striving to improve by playing better players and to earn bigger pay days. Advice to other players? You might have to play countless tournaments in order to take a big finish or it could happen on your first one. The important thing is to not let this high level variance affect your play, if you’re not happy with your results so far it does not necessarily mean you’re a bad player as luck is certainly a large factor in poker. Keep a clear head, always be trying to improve your game (there are many resources out there for an aspiring poker player to learn from), put in the hands and the results will follow. The EPL lives up to expectations
by Sunday ,4 Sep 2011 It was a massive million dollar prize for the winner of the first EPL tournament The inaugural Epic Poker League tournament is finished with David “Chino” Rheem now a million dollars richer after fighting his way through a pool of professional poker pros to take the prize money and the title. The tournament took place at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas and featured a final table composed of some of the best poker players around. The top three consisted of Rheem along with the legendary Eric Seidel and the player ESPN rank top in the world, Jason Mercier. Rheem is no stranger to tough competition, he won well over one and a half million dollars for seventh place at the Main Event of the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and $1.7 million for winning the World Poker Tour (WPT) Five Diamond Classic in 2009. None of these experienced pros put a foot wrong during the final table and it was an incredible 80 hands before the first player was knocked out. At the start of the day, Huck Seed was looking good after doubling his stack but was taken down by Mercier’s AK. Once Mercier took the lead it was almost impossible to stop him and he went on to eliminate Gavin Smith soon after. It was a coin toss as he went all in pre-flop with 99 only to be called by Mercier’s pocket Queens which held to see Seed off with a prize of a little over $150,000. It was then that Rheem decided to get into the action and knocked out Hasan Habib. At the start of play Habib had put himself at the top of the tournament but had been steadily bleeding chips on the final table until pushing all in with pocket sixes only to be bested by Rheem’s pocket sevens. Once down to the final three it was Mercier and Seidel who really went to war, with Rheem largely sitting to one side and letting them get on with it. It was the consummate professional, Seidel who managed to win the battle when he pushed all in with KJ and was called by Mercier’s 9 8. When the players saw a king on the flop they knew it was all over for Mercier and the last two were heads up. Eventually Rheem took Seidel out with A K against A Q once all the cards were on the board Rheem had a flush, the prize money and the title of champion.

The Full Tilt Poker story nears its end
The Full Tilt Poker story nears its end Choose your language Tuesday, Oct 11, 2011 Home > Poker Strategy > Articles > The Full Tilt Poker story nears its end by Tuesday ,20 Sep 2011 Full Tilt Poker are on their way to the final crisis as controversy after controversy dogs them to the end There seems to be no end to the free fall that the once mighty poker site Full Tilt has fallen into. After Black Friday Full Tilt saw their business devastated with the loss of their American market. After making a deal with the US Department of Justice (DoJ) where they agreed to pay back their former clients in the US Full Tilt reneged claiming not to have the money. This led to them having problems with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) leading to their poker license being suspended and a hearing is just around the corner to find out whether their license will be renewed by the AGCC. That hearing will take place on the 19th of September and it is highly unlikely that there will even be a viable company for the license to be granted to, should the AGCC move in favour. In this train wreck of a case things have gone from bad to worse, the case on the 19th is generally presumed to be the tipping point. The lawyer for Full Tilt and the several companies who run the site has been Jeff Ifrah and his associates until now, though there has been a growing amount of rumours as to whether he continues to represent the firm which in turn has led to speculation as to whether there is any money left in the company to pay them with. After releasing a statement on their finances in August the site claimed that they had been the victims of a massive financial fraud to the tune of $42 million by one of their payment processors. They also claimed that seizures by the DoJ accounted for over $115 million. This explanation satisfied few in the industry amongst players and pundits alike who reckon that hundreds of millions of dollars have been made by the site over the years of its operation. That Full Tilt Poker currently has no money is not in dispute but what happened to all of the money is a question that has yet to be answered to the satisfaction of players who have yet to come to terms with the loss of all their money. The hearing on the 19th is stated as being public but after the hearing, held in July which was also publicised as public was quickly held behind closed doors there is little faith that the 19th of September will shed any more light on the situation. Crotian Lottery is now offering electronic poker
Crotian Lottery is now offering electronic pokerIn Croatia, the state funded lottery is now offering new electronic poker solutions that include the PokerPro electronic poker table. After going through several layers of testing, and against numerous competitors for the same role, PokerPro was selected to become the poker solution for 5 state run casinos. The reason they were selected is due to their comprehensive poker knowledge and reliability, as well as poker player preference. This conclusion was arrived at by various field trials and as a result of direct interaction with their tables by Croatian poker players.PokerPro tables are owned and distributed by PokerTek. PokerTek is one of the foremost developers of electronic poker table games and solutions. The field tests took place last year. PokerTek has also been seen in various other poker rooms. The Excalibur in Las Vegas, Nevada opened a poker room based entirely around these products. Although that room did poorly, another in Madison, Wisconsin is thriving, based on this technology. It is clear to the Croatian lottery and poker players that PokerTek’s knowledge and skills suit their style and needs perfectly. Soulier Leads Epic Poker League Main Event Final Table
The Epic Poker League’s second main event since its inception is down to the final table at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. As the four players remaining head to the dinner break, it is Fabrice Soulier who is currently the chip leader with just under two million in chips.Soulier is joined at the dinner break by David Paul Steicke, Mike McDonald, and Erik Seidel. The latter is the fan favorite, but that does not mean the other three players are not receiving support from the fans that are in attendance and watching the main event final table live. The final day of competition has been filled with ups and down for many of the eight players that began the day at the final table. While all of the players were guaranteed to cash at the event, the prestige and the big money stood at the top, where the winner will take home over $700,000 in prize money. The first player to bow out of the final table was Dutch Boyd. The popular player finished the tournament in eighth place, winning $57,530. Sean Getzweiller was the next to go, picking up $69,040 in the process. Isaac Baron finished in sixth place, gaining a cash prize of $92,050, and Nam Thien Le was the last player to be ousted, taking home $126,570 for his fifth place finish.Of the players remaining, Soulier is in the best position with his chip stack. Steicke is currently in second position, with 1,577,000. McDonald has 684,000, and Seidel is close behind, holding 665,000. None of the players have made much of a move in the current level of play, as the players have slowed down the action at the table leading into the dinner break. The Epic Poker League was born out of the idea that the top professional poker players in the world needed a league to call their own. The first main event that was held had over 100 players entered, and the tally has fallen off in event number two. Less than 100 players entered the tournament at the Palms over the past week, but organizers still consider the event to be a success, as the league is only now growing in popularity in its early stages of existence.
